Counselling and Psychotherapy in Newcastle upon Tyne

My name is Joanne and I am a counsellor and psychotherapist. I offer long and short term therapy from my dedicated room in the beautiful Ouseburn area of Newcastle upon Tyne.

I have a range of varied experience working as a therapist in the third sector and in private practice. I often work with people experiencing anxiety and panic, low mood and depression, life transitions, post-traumatic stress, identity and sexuality, and relationship issues.

My life experiences led me to train as a therapist, after working in several different countries with a diverse range of people. I have been in practice since 2016 and hold a diploma in psychotherapeutic counselling and a diploma in psychotherapy from the Northern Guild of Psychotherapy. I am an accredited member of the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP).

My therapy room window looks out onto a green space lined with trees, offering both light and shade. During the first session or two we will discuss what is troubling you and agree how we will work together.

I am an integrative therapist, which means that we can use different methods in our work. I will encourage you to treat yourself kindly as you work through your issues. I may also challenge you to become aware of patterns in your story so that you can make informed and conscious decisions about your life and relationships.

In longer term therapy we might go further into your childhood experiences and more deeply held beliefs and feelings. Getting in touch with your creative side can help with this, and we can work with imagery and stories, art and dream work, clay and sand tray work if this feels right.

I am also a trained Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapist. We can discuss this way of working if you are interested.

I hold a certificate in clinical supervision and love to work creatively as a supervisor with other therapists.

The therapy building is a short walk from the Quayside and the River Tyne, symbolic of the collective stories of the people who live in this region.

I believe that we are all unique combinations of our life experiences, our families and ancestors, and our different societies and cultures. I work on the basis that we are equals, and will recognise and respect our differences.

If you would like to, you can email or text me to arrange a free 15 minute chat, so we can see if working together feels right.
